The Last Exorcist (2010)

First off, I’d like to say that The Last Exorcist has some of my favorite Box Art. With that out of the way, some of you might be wondering why this is part of the Eli Roth special. Well that’s fucking simple, the top of the box says Eli Roth and Strike present The Last Exorcist. What this means about what he has to do with the movie, I’m sad to say I don’t know.  But it’s the name that brought me to it, and I’m glad it did.

The movie follows  around Reverend Cotton Marcus, as he’s making a documentary to prove the exorcisms he does have nothing religious about them, they just use the “possessed’s” religious beliefs to cure their psyche. But is this really nothing more then a disturbed individual, or is there really  a demon inside this innocent young girl?

Now, I didn’t know any  of the actors going into to this, as is the way I like my Found Footage style movies, I feel if you put in some one I recognize, it takes away from the impact of the movie, dramatically. But everyone that is in it, did a great job, I really felt for the Reverend through it all.

The movie really shines in the scenes of the Reverend talking to the  Possessed, or through the possessed I guess you might call it. The nature of the conflict between the non-believing Reverend and the Possessed just seemed perfect, the dialog really shines in this movie, it’s what I left remembering the most, and feeling chilled by.

The only problem with the movie that I felt, was the sudden ending that’s in all of these found footage movies. I understand, it’s found footage, we only know as much as we can see, it’s not a script written (well it is but anyway) with a story arc, conflict, and resolution.

Score  – 84% (would of been higher if it had a better ending)

Piranha (2010)

I just got a new keyboard and typing is hard so this one will be short, and edited later for length.

Piranha is a remake of the Joe Dante film from 1978, it doesn’t have the same emotional power the original has, but it has gore, and boobs. Just what’s needed in a fun summer flick these days.

An ancient race of deadly piranhas are released during Spring break, leading to lots of fun gore soaked scenes. I’m about to break this keyboard, that took way to long to write, I will update this once I better got the hang of it.

This is only part of my Eli Roth special due to his cameo as a wet t-shirt contest host. Though I’m starting to wonder how much of this is him acting :p

WILL GET UPDATED.

Cabin Fever (2002)

This was a movie I didn’t like when I was younger, I went into it not knowing what to expect, and left not knowing what I saw. Because of this I avoided it for a while, til I saw it on sale and decided to give it another chance, and I’m glad I did.

Quite a fun movie that plays on paranoia, Cabin Fever is quite a fun flick, about what happens when you go camping. Being about a Flesh eating disease, the gore is quite fun to see evolve over the course of the movie. But it’s not all about the gore. It’s about the interactions of the people and the emotions which are being affected by it. Quite a dark piece all in all, it still manages to keep a great sense of humor to it. Even sporting an great cameo by Eli Roth, as the friendly stoner, or as I like to call it, my Friday.

I’m in a bit of a rush today, so I don’t have alot of time to write this, but I got one in, tomorrow will either be The Last Exorcism, or Piranha, right now I’m leaning to the later.

Hostel Part II (2007)

I went into this one with high hopes, I had already seen the bathtub scene, and I was very happy with what I saw. There was some really excellent gore effects, and I love me the gore effects. So as soon as I saw this bad boy at Zellers, fuck lunch today, I’m picking it up. Rushed back home, waited for the sky to darken, and turned it on.
From the get go I could tell it was directed well, and I even was impressed by some of the shots, but then I hit a snag with it. It was going a long time between gore. I really long time. And here I lined up for a gorefest, I wanted blood, I wanted guts. I didn’t want to wait, I got a lot I could do. I found myself getting bored, not because anything was wrong with the movie.
That’s when  realized, I’m fucking impatient, but why? I could watch a lot of movies that were slow, what was wrong with this one? That’s when it hit me,
I knew everyone would die in the end, so none of the people interested me. Why do we have to build them up this much? After thinking about it for a bit, I decided to give the movie another go, but to expect something slower.
So I did.

On this viewing, it clicked with me. I really felt myself getting into the mood of the movie, and by the time the gore finally came back, I was so ready for it, it was an almost sexually feeling. Torture porn is a good term. I’m not saying it’s sexually like go masturbate, I mean it has the act,  and the money shot, it has the same feeling.       So when you approach it with the right view, you really feel chilled by it, not your mystery criminal minds chill, but that one of , what if that was me?

Eli Roth Special.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the first, I mean quite awhile, I wasn’t a big fan of it. It was talking about being the goriest thing around, and I didn’t think it lived up to that when I saw it. So I didn’t really lie Eli Roth from what  I knew about him. Over the years I’d seen his name on quite a few movies I liked, but not as director. They were quite good movies, so I grew to like seeing his name.  When I started collecting and studying horror these last few months , I’ve seen him in a few documentaries, and really started to like his personality, and how he thought about the business, so I decided to go back to some of his movies, so today I’m doing Hostel II, tomorrow I’m doing Cabin Fever, I already did 2001 Maniacs, The Last Exorcism, and Piranha. I’d do more but they’re the only ones I own, and I don’t have much money atm.

Without any more delay, I’m sitting down to write the first one now.
